Altar Society

In the early 1950’s, women of the parish met in their homes and called themselves “Circles.”  Around 1954, they came to be known as the Saint Joseph Altar Society and formed their group around the shared bond of faith in the Lord.  This dedicated group of women is filled with hope for the future of Saint Joseph Parish.  In endless giving, they exemplify Christian love in action.

The Altar Society is involved in a number of parish ministries, including:

  • Baptismal Garments –  The white garments of baptism are made and provided for children baptized at Saint Joseph Parish.

  • Fundraising – Various annual events, sponsored by the Altar Society, benefit the life of the parish.

  • Altar Linen Care –  Altar linens and altar server albs are cleaned and cared for.

  • Sanctuary Care –  The church and chapel sanctuaries are cleaned and dusted.

  • Funeral Luncheons –  With the assistance of volunteers from the Altar Society, luncheons are provided for a nominal fee for family members following a funeral.  Members of the Altar Society will provide desserts for the luncheons.

The Altar Society has regularly purchased vestments and altar linens for parish worship along with altar bread and materials for the Rosary Makers.  Masses are offered for deceased members and loved ones.  Contributions are made to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Active Faith and parish Youth Ministry, along with other good causes.

The Altar Society meets on the 4th Thursday of each month in the multi-purpose room, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM

On the First Friday of each month, members of the Society participate as a group in the 9:00 AM Mass, providing coffee and donuts for the congregation following Mass.
