Music Ministry

Excerpt from the USCCB document: Sing to the Lord – Music in Divine Worship

God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song….By its very nature song has both an individual and a communal dimension.  Thus, it is no wonder that singing together in church expresses so well the sacramental presence of God to his people. (1.2.)  Choirs and ensembles comprise persons drawn from the community who possess the requisite musical skills and a commitment to the established schedule of rehearsals and liturgies.  Thus, they are able to enrich the celebration by adding musical elements beyond the capabilities of the congregation alone. There are several opportunities for parishioners to share their love of music.   These groups are described here.:
Parish Choir

The parish choir currently includes men and women who sing at weekend Liturgies singing a variety of both traditional and contemporary style SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) music.   They practice on Thursday evenings from September – May.  They sing at weekend masses in the following rotation each month:  1st weekend Saturday, 5:00 PM; 2nd weekend, Sunday 8:00 AM; 3rd weekend Sunday 10:00 AM and the 4th weekend at 12:00 Noon.  They also sing for various holy days such as Christmas 11:00 PM, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday at 10:00 AM.

Voices in Praise

This ensemble sings a somewhat more contemporary style.  Currently, Guitar & piano accompany a group of female voices.  They practice on Wednesday evenings from September – May and typically sing at weekend Mass twice a month; 1ST weekend at 10:00 AM and 3rd weekend at Saturday, 5:00 PM.

Youth Mass Choir

This group currently is a group of high school girls.  They lead the singing at the monthly youth mass.   The schedule for youth mass is determined by the Youth Minister and is typically at 10:00 AM.

Seasonal Children’s Choir

The children’s choir is open to students in grades 3-8 who wish to sing for either Christmas 4:00 PM Mass and/or Easter 12:00 Noon Mass.  They can sign up to sing for either or both holy days.  Practices are on Saturday afternoons for 4-6 weeks before the holy day.
